Bee in the Ferns Mug // Black Clay

About the Mug: Wheel thrown stoneware mug with pale peach slip brushwork over bee and fern leaf design.  The inside is glazed with a peachy pink glossy liner glaze; the outside is pale peach slip and raw black stoneware clay body.  I used a diamond sanding pad to sand the outside smooth and velvety to the touch. A larger sized mug, this will hold a generous 16 ounces of liquid.

About the Design: Ferns are as common as clouds here in the pacific northwest and make up much of the understory of the Douglas fir and redwood forests.  My deepest memories of home are of glossy wet ferns lining misty trails through towering trees.

Bees are a powerhouse pollinators that our food supply depends on but many colonies have died unexpectedly in recent years.  Climate change and wide spread use of pesticides are suspected.  To learn more and help out, go here.

Taking Care: This listing is for the piece pictured.  It is microwave and dishwasher safe but as dishwashers are hard on ceramics, hand washing will prolong the life of your piece.  It is handmade and as such each piece is unique and beautifully imperfect.  Thank you so much for choosing handmade!
