Hummingbird in the Ferns // Canyon Clay

About the Mug: Wheel thrown stoneware mug with pale peach colored slip brushwork over fern leaves and hummingbird design.  The inside is glazed with a peachy pink glossy liner glaze; the outside is pale peach slip and raw golden orange stoneware clay body.  I used a diamond sanding pad to sand the outside smooth and velvety to the touch. A larger sized mug, this will hold a generous 16 ounces of liquid.

About the Design: Ferns are as common as clouds here in the pacific northwest and make up much of the understory of the Douglas fir and redwood forests.  My deepest memories of home are of glossy wet ferns lining misty trails through towering trees.

Humming birds make their nests in my garden and neighborhood; I even have a little nest I found on the sidewalk one day.  Even though they don’t have the prettiest singing voice, I welcome these little pollinators.

Taking Care: This listing is for the piece pictured.  It is microwave and dishwasher safe but as dishwashers are hard on ceramics, hand washing will prolong the life of your piece.  It is handmade and as such each piece is unique and beautifully imperfect.  Thank you so much for choosing handmade!
