Manzanita Mug // Black Clay

44.00

About the Mug: Wheel thrown stoneware mug. Brushed cream slip over manzanita leaf design.  The inside is glazed with a white glossy liner glaze. I used a diamond sanding pad to sand the outside smooth and velvety to the touch. A smaller sized mug, this will hold approximately 12 ounces of liquid.

About the Design: Mazanita’s grow throughout the western cascades region that I call home.  Their smooth reddish bark and pale grey green leaves make a striking plant that I’ve been fascinated with since I was a kid.

This design was created using stencils and cream colored slip (slip is clay that has been watered down to paint consistency).  Each stencil was applied by hand then a textural layer of slip was painted on before removing the stencils to reveal the black clay beneath.
